I am Cindy Nguyen, a resident of the Big Apple. Here I study business marketing at Pace University as a sophomore. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I could not be more excited being a part of the family.
Fashion was never something that came easy to me. I grew up in the small town of Watertown, Connecticut and was more so introduced to UGGs and North Face fleece jackets, rather than the fashion pieces that Vogue featured every month. During my years in high school, I experimented with every fashion trend that was upcoming and in season at the time. Just picture me rocking the snap bracelets and bedazzled bell-bottom jeans! Even though I was voted Most Stylish by my senior class, I still cannot forget the rocky road that brought me to that title. I will never forget those Hollister Co. logo T-shirts and my hot pink etnies or Heelys.
As I prepared to graduate, I knew that I wanted to leave Connecticut. I really felt that I was being held back from what more I was capable of, so I packed my bags and moved to New York City. Some would say it is a big change, but it was not really to me. I call myself a small town girl with big city dreams and adjusting to a big city was a part of that. My decision to move to New York for college two years ago was one of my best decisions.
During this short time, I was exposed to much more than Connecticut could offer me. I just wrapped up this year with six internships! Way more than I could ever imagine completing before moving here. I am continually granted opportunities to work and interview for some of the biggest fashion houses in the industry: Christian Louboutin, Prada, Diane von Furstenberg and even Seventeen. Through this new experience, my personal fashion sense and knowledge have developed so much and now I am able to define my style as minimal chic. I hope to someday establish my own original look, but you will be seeing a lot of ponchos and effortless pieces in my closet. I owe a lot to simple pieces that make a statement in my everyday and on-the-go looks.
