STYLE GURU BIO: Caitlin Zavist

When I was growing up I had a knack for re-inventing certain clothing pieces—I just wanted to wear what my mom wore. I became very good at turning ponchos into fully functional skirts, shirts into dresses and I could walk in heels five sizes too big. As I got older, however, I began to wear clothes my own size. Fashion has always been a huge part of my life because I find it to be the purest form of expression. Growing up I became very influenced by old Hollywood stars like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly because I adored the way their full skirts or lavish jewels would light up the screen.

I am about to enter my second year at the Fashion Institute of Technology as an advertising and marketing comminations major and I can’t wait to share the best looks F.I.T has to offer with my readers! I absolutely adore living in Manhattan because there is nothing greater than being constantly surrounded by so many different types of people. I could walk down the street and see that nobody has the same style or vibe.

I love outfits that are easy but detailed. That is why as the warmer weather approaches I find myself in patterned shorts and comfy flats all the time. Also, lets not forget that no summer look is complete without a little cross-body bag and some cute bug earrings to jazz up the look. This way, if you’re power shopping on the city streets or sitting on the grass at a music festival you’ll be stylish AND comfortable.

Audrey Hepburn has heavily and very positively influenced my personal style. I love simple, classy and feminine outfits because they are easy and beautiful. A good pair of pearl studs, or a chic red lipstick can add a subtle edge to any look. I mean, what is better than strolling by Tiffany & Co. holding a croissant while wearing a fully jeweled, black evening dress—Am I right?

I am not only a lover of Manhattan, but everywhere! As soon as get my degree I would love to spend time traveling to my top five countries: France, Thailand, England, Ecuador and Egypt. I love summer style because it represents spontaneity, bright patterns and breezy pieces. I am beyond excited to find beautiful summer looks to share with all of you in the next few weeks.
