STYLE GURU BIO: Brooke Withers

Hi y’all! I am currently a junior at the best school ever AKA James Madison University. I’m pursuing my degree in communication studies with a concentration in public relations and a minor in human resource development. After college, I plan to move somewhere farther south (and warmer) while chasing my dreams of being a public relations practitioner for a fashion label.

My interest in fashion really sparked this past spring when I began working at Bluetique Cheap Chic. Bluetique is an affordable girl’s clothing store in downtown Harrisonburg. A lot of the clothes in my closet are from Bluetique because it is so incredibly difficult not to buy out the whole entire store.

As far as my style, I’m very open to trying out new styles but I would describe my overall look as slightly preppy. I’m not afraid to admit that I use others for my fashion inspiration. Fashion is a learning process and there’s no better way to learn than from others. With so many students from all over the country, going to James Madison University makes it easy to keep up with the latest fashion trends. Trends spread like a wildfire on college campuses and that’s what makes it so convenient to stay up-to-date with what’s hot and what’s not for each season.

This winter, I’ve been stocking up on sweaters. Not only are they cute, but they are super cozy. The cowl neck sweater is my personal fave. Growing up, I absolutely hated turtlenecks so I was surprised when I was a huge advocate for this trend. Black ripped jeans have also been a staple in my closet this season. I love black jeans because they are so versatile; from going out to the classroom they are perfect for most settings. I accessorized my sweater with a long tassel necklace, black peep-toe booties, and a cute leather bag.

“Fashion is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”
