STYLE GURU BIO: Brooke Retell

Hello lovely Fashionistas and Fashionistos! I’m Brooke, Brookie, Brookalina—whatever you want to call me. It’s nice to meet you! I’m about to start my junior year at the State University of New York College at Oneonta, also known as SUNY Oneonta. I’m a Fashion and Textiles major with a concentration in Fashion Merchandising. I love Oneonta more than I ever thought I would, but during my senior year, I hope to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology as part of Oneonta’s 3+1 program.

Sometimes I think about what the world would be like without fashion. What would I be majoring in? What would my future job be if it weren’t in the fashion industry? These are questions I have never been able to figure out answers to. The only thing I could ever see myself doing is anything, and maybe everything, fashion related. Fashion has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was the daughter raiding mom’s closet, the big sister making her baby sister play dress up and the fashion diva in the classroom.

My closet varies from total prep and classy lassie to ’90s babe and boho-chic. Currently, I own a lot of fast-fashion items based on trends for each season. As I reach my 20s and start entering the fashion industry, I hope to grow my collection of quality staple items. For now, a few of my favorite pieces in my closet include my Ralph Lauren cable knit sweaters, my American Eagle Outfitters Sky High Jeggings and my David Jones Paris shoulder bag.

Two of my favorite brands, currently in my closet, are Ralph Lauren and Vineyard Vines. Chanel is my favorite brand that I dream of having in my closet one day.

Besides fashion, I have a huge passion for music. A day doesn’t go by without me listening to my favorite songs. Between all of the shopping I do and the concerts I go to, my wallet is usually empty. Capturing moments in pictures is also one of my favorite things in life. I’m always taking pictures or getting my picture taken. I also love to design and draw, mostly fashion illustrations. Other than all of that, I’m your typical suburban girl from upstate New York, and the key to my happiness is almost always coffee and my friends!

I hope you enjoyed that short story of my life. I am so excited to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, and can’t wait to share more with all of you!
