STYLE GURU BIO: Bianca Portillo

Greetings everyone! My name is Bianca Portillo and I am so excited to be back to share with you my favorite trends this summer! In the fall I will be a junior at Penn State University studying broadcast journalism and minoring in digital media.

One day I will become a fashion and investigative journalist for the country’s top prestigious publications. I have a history of writing and loving fashion, from watching the Mercedes Fashion week runways shows online to thrift shopping with my friends. Reading books by designers and fashion magazines is one of my favorite things to do because there’s so much history to the fashion industry. The best part of fashion is being able to express yourself through color, texture and patterns. I also love helping others figuring out what to wear, and using social media to craft new ideas of looks and themes of outfits which is why I’m so obsessed with college fashionista.

I decided to start the summer off with a girly, grungy look because lately it hasn’t been as warm as it should be in Philadelphia. As you can see, the outfit consists of a black turtleneck crop top with high-waisted, distressed mom jeans and black combat boots. Crop tops are always best to wear with high-waisted jeans so that you can show off those hips in your jeans. Wearing boots to match the outfit makes it more edgy. French braids for me have always been in style, because it’s an easy and pulled back look. I also added a fuchsia lip and a statement necklace just to make the outfit a little girly. I didn’t want it to be super edgy, and because summer is right around the corner adding a pink lip took the edge off.
