STYLE GURU BIO: Ashlin Crawley

Well, hello, hello! Back at it again for my second semester with CollegeFashionista!

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Ashlin Crawley, and I am currently in my last year at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, studying Merchandise Marketing. I am a business-minded person, with a strong sense of the creative side of fashion. Marketing and advertising are main facets that drive my passion, as they are equally creative and business oriented—just like me!

Summer sent me through, what I like to call, a slight fashion hiatus. Unlike most people living in Los Angeles, I actually enjoy (and prefer!) colder weather. I adore having a layered, unique and well-balanced outfit; and for some reason in the summer, I tend to choose the easy route and settle for the basic jean short and tank top combo. Needless to say, I am welcoming fall with open arms, so that my creativity in my clothing can get a refresh.

If you know me, you know that I am a flea market and thrift QUEEN. Yes, I am willing and able to attest to this. Basically, I only shop at thrift stores, consignment stores or flea markets. I’ve come to realize that I appreciate clothing that had a life before myself. There is something exhilarating about picking through clothing that previously had so many memories attached to it, that I could only come up with in my head.

I like to call the look that I’m wearing here the “Confused Californian.” The beautiful thing about California is that the weather is somewhat unpredictable while somehow maintaining a bearable amount of sunshine. Seeing that I love colder weather, my favorite times of the day in Los Angeles are the crisp early mornings and the chilly beach nights. I love living in a place where I can wear shorts, sandals and a sweatshirt and be completely content.

Anyway, I am so excited for the next few months and the continuation of my title as Style Guru! Let’s have a #RAD semester!
