STYLE GURU BIO: Amanda Rutter

Happy holidays everyone! My name is Amanda Rutter and I am a senior at Washington State University, majoring in apparel merchandising and minoring in Spanish. I’m stoked to blog about fashion trends around the Washington State campus as well as, my personal style this final semester of my college career. I’ve been following CollegeFashionista for awhile and I am incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of this internship, I’m looking forward to learning a lot throughout the next five months!

I’ve always loved fashion, even as a little girl when my mom and I went to Disneyland, rather than going on rides all I wanted was go to the gift shop to look at the beautiful princess dresses on display. I love how the fashion industry is both creative as well as business oriented. I’ve always been taught that if you pursue a career in a field you’re truly passionate and interested in you’ll never work a day in your life, and growing up I couldn’t imagine going to school for or pursuing a career in any other field but fashion.

Though spring semester is just around the corner, the winter weather is showing no sign of warming anytime soon. Especially here at Wazzu, where the only thing more miserable than watching our football team ‘coug it’ is winter in Eastern Washington. It snows into March and sometimes as late as April so look forward to seeing winter wear well into what most of the country considers ‘springtime.’ Maxi trenches, leather jackets, booties, hats and layers on layers are staples in my winter wardrobe this season but I can’t wait for the sunshine make it’s appearance once again because summer wear is by far my favorite! My style changes with how I’m feeling at the moment and right now I’m inspired by 1960s and ’70s styles as well as, a mix of urban bohemian influences. However, I also like to mix that with moto chic styles, like those rocked by celebrities like Kylie Jenner, that have been everywhere this season!

Some fun facts about me: I love music…obsessed might be a better word. I religiously search for new music and while I enjoy all genres, my favorites lately have been electronic and house music. If I had the funds for it, music festivals would control my life! I also love, when the weather permits it, to go outside and explore the Pacific Northwest and photograph it’s beauty. I’m a Northwest native however, I lived in Puerto Rico for a couple of years in high school which inspired me to learn Spanish and also gave me a terrible case of wanderlust: I love to travel!

Well gear up Fashionistas/os, this semester should be one for the books! My camera lens and I are awaiting to capture the fabulous fashion that will be strutting down the catwalks of Washington State University (the mall, Greek row, the CUB) this upcoming spring semester.
