STYLE GURU BIO: Abbey Kittaka

Hey there everyone! I guess this is the time for me to introduce myself; I’m Abbey Kittaka, a junior at Indiana University. I am currently majoring in apparel merchandising and minoring in business and fashion design. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, and I am stoked to have this opportunity to showcase the best looks across my campus!

I am personally drawn to fashion because it is such a huge form of self-expression. Being able to see people’s personality shine through their outfit is something I have always loved. I am also a strong believer in the fact that putting on one of your favorite pieces of clothing or jewelry can boost your mood and give confidence. Having the opportunity to find Fashionistas/os around campus in their favorite outfits is what I’m most excited for this semester.

If I had to describe my personal style, I’d say it all depends on the day. Some days, when the weather is warm and sunny, I’ll wear floral and bohemian pieces. On other days, I’ll wear all black and go for a more grunge look. I like to switch up my look every so often to match my mood. I love trying the newest trends in a way that stays true to my own personal style.

The Midwest gets a bad rep when it comes to fashion, so I am making it my mission to show that us Midwesterners can be trendy and fashion forward too. Bloomington is home to such a diverse community with people from so many different backgrounds, and I can’t wait to show you all some of my favorite outfits that I find around town.

I love to dye my hair. As you have probably noticed, my hair is not a natural color. It has been hot pink, magenta, purple, lavender, blue, and teal. At this point, having my natural brown hair would seem strange on me. I guess this is something from my edgy middle school days that I never quite grew out of.

This outfit features my staple denim jacket that I tend to wear almost every day during the cold seasons in Indiana. I love to personalize my jacket with all sorts of pins and patches. I love that pins and patches are trendy because it gives everyone a chance to create a piece that is special to them and one of a kind. I can wear this jacket with skinny jeans, striped T-shirt, and booties, like shown here, or I can dress it up over a knee-length dress. The possibilities are endless!

I’m looking forward to a RAD semester with all you Fashionistas/os!
