STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Welcome Back To The '90s

When everyone thinks of a decade and the fashion that comes with it, it’s always the ‘20s, the flapper girls and the men with the penguin tailed tuxedos. When it’s the ‘70s, big hair and disco pants come to mind. And in the ‘80s, leg warmers and bright color-blocking were popular. Now, I don’t know about all the other ‘90s babies, but I’m so happy to say that the ‘90s are back! It’s been 20 years and it’s now time for all the other decades to step aside and bring back the decade that brought us Fashionistas/os along with it!

I don’t exactly remember a ton of the fashion in the ‘90s because I was five. However, I love that I am able to witness the styles from the decade I missed come back. Through my favorite girl Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston on Friends) and other classic ‘90s shows that we now have access to, ‘90s babies are able to see the styles that they missed and bring them back. My favorite part of the ‘90s style would be flannels, especially how this Fashionista is wearing it. Wear a cute T-shirt dress, put some Converse on and finish it with the ‘90s staple of a flannel around your waist. A key part of the style 20 years ago was looking cute without trying hard, and that is exactly what the tied flannel does. It makes you look like you put time and effort into your look with only a few easy steps (perfect for us college students that are always in a hurry).

The classic ‘90s grunge look is shown perfectly through this trend. It keeps the comfortable and edgy look that this decade reflects, but it manages to take the look to the next level. With a sometimes unflattering T-shirt dress (a common pairing with this trend), it helps pull the look together and makes it more flattering while still keeping it grungy. Not only that, but from experience, I know how cold lecture halls can get, so just slip the flannel on as a light jacket in your class. Now, you’re good to go.

The ‘90s are back and as grungy as ever, but with a new twist (pun intended). The flannel tied around the waist is the perfect way to channel the decade that is obviously very important to all of us. This new and cute trend that this Fashionista is salying above is a new and perfect way to channel the ’90s. Welcome back everyone–the ‘90s are here to stay!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I’m the type of person that always likes to wear comfy clothes, yet be confident in what I’m wearing.  I have all different colors of flannels, and when I wear them tied around my waist, I always feel comfortable and know that it flatters my body type.”
