STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The All-Around Shirt Dress

Oh, how the shirt dress has saved many of our lives. The versatility and comfort it offers gives us the ability to be free and customize it as much as we want. When you have nothing to wear, it’s so easy to just throw a shirt dress on and a great pair of shoes for a simple look. Or if you want a stylish, effortless look, you can throw on a shirt dress, a nice pair of shoes and statement jewelry. This trend has been relevant for a long time, but as the seasons move on, the style and prints change accordingly. It is very easy to transition with these pieces in your closet for a wide array of styling options.

This Fashionista displayed her take on styling one in this hot weather. She wore a shirt dress that embodied the summer season with bright, warm colors and palm tree leaves. She styled this already bold dress with a skinny belt, wooden platform sandals, minimal jewelry and ‘70s-inspired sunglasses. She pulled everything together by sticking with the color palette from the shirt dress.

You can definitely imitate this look in a breeze, especially since a lot of the pieces are summer items going on sale as we transition into the fall season. You can pick up any kind of bold shirt dress and pair it with a simple skinny belt and a pair of ‘70s-inspired platforms. The rest of the accessories can be very minimal just like this Fashionista with a black choker layered with a gold chain. If you wanted, you can easily throw in a basic clutch and sunglasses.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “In the last days of summer, I love to wear bold patterns! As the sun loses its intensity, unfortunately so does the color in my wardrobe.  All of the warm colors in my closet get a time to shine for one more month, as September is around the corner.  Easy pieces like my shirt dress are so breathable and well-suited for the humidity that August brings, while the brightness and fun pattern still make it fashionable. Putting heels on with a shirt dress always brings a touch of sophistication, and I love the ‘70s vibe that my wood platform Topshop sandals bring. Summer is for fun, sun and bold colors, so enjoy it before fall brings the muted tones of olive and burgundy back to our ensembles.”
