STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Sweater Weather

September 17th, 2015 at 2:00am

Although summer doesn’t officially end until the autumnal equinox, there’s something about seeing “September” plastered across my calendar that feels so bittersweet. Fall is my favorite season, but September, to me, is now synonymous with school, and that means no more lazy days spent in the sun. Call me crazy, but sometimes after three long, hot and humid months, I feel a bit of excitement brewing up deep inside, eager for crisp autumn days, eager to unearth my sweaters from the dark depths of my under-the-bed storage bins. I think you may have to be a true Midwesterner to understand this kind of feeling.

The temperatures may not have dropped quite yet, but when they do we can officially dub it “sweater weather” and expect to see a wide variety of shapes and colors in style this fall. An abundance of cozy sweaters is a necessity for every Fashionista. I seldom leave the house without a pullover or cardigan as I head to class since every lecture hall ranges from feeling like an icebox or as if it’s heated from the underworld. For that reason don’t ever feel guilty for investing in a cute sweater or two this fall. It’s nice to have a variety, too, so try a more bold color like this Fashionista did, if you really want your wardrobe to pop.

Wanting to liven up her ensemble a little more, this Fashionista opted for a rose tank top to layer under her pumpkin-colored cardigan. Choosing a colorful yet subdued top to layer with a bright sweater really enhances the fall palette of this look and is a refreshing change from classic, neutral colors. Maintaining the theme of cozy and casual, she paired these tops with some Citizens of Humanity ankle jeans, the perfect staple for anyone’s fall closet. This specific pair is great especially for busy college students like this Fashionista; they are super stretchy legging jeans that will give the illusion of looking a bit more fancier and put-together than classic black leggings.

Not quite ready to pack away her summer footwear, this Fashionista completed her look with some platform sandals, a fabulous piece of footwear that can be dressed up or down. The multitude of rings and necklaces on this Fashionista are just the icing on the cake. She said she loves throwing on a variety of jewels to really personalize and liven up any outfit on any given day.
