STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Print Mash Up

January 19th, 2015 at 2:00am

Mixing and matching prints is a classic for the lifelong Fashionista, but for many others they are just now experiencing the joys of branching out and trying new patterns; not only trying new patterns, but mixing them. Some take the subtle approach and mix an accessory and a main item, and some go full force with a dress, jacket and shoes!

The art of mixing prints goes as far back one can remember. From the animal prints of caveman to the stripes and jagged chevron of Missoni, it’s a sure way to tell you are a Fashionista who thinks outside of the box. When you start mixing textures responsibly, that’s when you know you are a true Fashionista. But before then, let’s venture into the world of prints.

This Fashionista took the subtle approach by mixing the prints of her pants and her purse. Classically done, she wore a delicate necklace and neutral flats to offset the intensity of her patterns. The chevron was the perfect background for the jagged edges of her knit cross-body bag. It somewhat served as a neutral piece to the colors in the bag as well. It was well planned way to be adventurous with her wardrobe. For a Fashionista-in-training, the way this Fashionista made a statement with mixing prints is one of the easiest ways to transition into the fashion world.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Try adding new pieces to your closet that add dimension. The more dynamic items you have, the easier it will be to mix your prints.”
