STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Leather Weather

Midterm week is upon us here at San Diego State and it is painful. During this dreadful period, coffee trips are becoming more common, flashcards are being made and being at the library 24/7 is completely normally. For me, this time of year usually means leggings and a graphic T-shirt. So, when I spotted this Fashionista near The Union, I had some questions. Where did she have the energy to create such a cool outfit? How is she avoiding the midterms-block-all-my-creative-outfit-ideas problem? Then I remembered my go-to mindset for each day—dress well, test well. I’m a huge advocate for this, so while waiting in line at Starbucks for my third cup of coffee, I brought myself to tell her how impressed I was that she didn’t let midterms stifle her love for fashion.

I don’t know about you guys, but leather brings out this rocker chick vibe within me. What better time to wear it than exam season, where you can walk in and out of a test looking and feeling good enough to pass. Leather items are a must-have for fall and winter 2015. Whether it be daring, leather pants or chic leather shoes, it adds a great extra spunk to an outfit. This Fashionista framed her outfit around a faux leather, asymmetrical skirt. She went on to pair it with neutrals: an olive green, knit crop top and gray, lace-up sandals from Steve Madden. She kept it simple by adding a crystal accessory. She mentioned she purchased the stone itself in Old Town and slipped it on a chain she already had. This DIY accessory idea is one of many that can have you sporting your own unique pieces.

So, the time for leather has come. Wear it. Embrace it. Put it on a bag. Rock the leather trend the way this Fashionista did, with spunk and a lot of admirers.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Just because you want to be comfortable doesn’t mean you have to wear leggings! There are tons of ways to be comfortable and cute at the same time. Fashion is my way of expressing myself, so think about clothes that way!”
