STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Layering is Everything

It is difficult to dress for winter without looking like a huge marshmallow. The necessary layers can become extremely bulky which may keep you warm, but you may also appear bigger than you actually are. No one wants that.

In order to maintain the bulk and stay warm, layer with trendy and cozy pieces. My favorite look for guys during this time of year is the layering of a thermal, flannel and a sweater. Other winter looks may be jogger pants, a sweater and men’s combat boots or jogger pants, a thermal and a puffer vest. Clearly, there are four essential pieces for men this winter: jogger pants, thermals, combat boots and sweaters.

These outfits could lead to many different colors and patterns. I would try to keep it simple by choosing one pattern. The pattern may be from your flannel, the thermal or the sweater, in this case. The patterns could consist of plaid, stripe, polka-dot, etc.

This Fashionisto chose to go with a solid, white thermal, a plaid flannel and a solid sweater. This look works perfectly because he has the two solids and the one pattern. The color scheme goes very well, too!

This Fashionisto chose to stay warm by wearing a pair of jeans, thermal, flannel and a sweater. The flannel is a wool material and the sweater is a heavy knit material so he is anything but cold. Also, he wears the look confidently and does not look like bulky and uncomfortable. He looks fashionable and he is staying warm.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I hate being cold but I also hate looking like a marshmallow. My solution is to layer by using all of the trendiest pieces for winter. I am outside trekking through the snow in order to get from class to class everyday, I need to be warm or else I will not want to leave my bed in the morning.”
