STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Functional Flannels

January 20th, 2015 at 2:00am

It’s no secret that flannels are a major trend, especially during the cold winter months. Not only are they warm, but they are the perfect cross between comfortable and fashionable. Believe me, I’m the first person to reach for an oversized flannel and my Hunter Boots when I’m feeling lazy. For this reason, it’s no surprise that I quickly noticed this Fashionisto’s functional look.

At first glance, I thought this Fashionisto had simply layered a flannel over his gray hoodie. It turned out that he was actually wearing a warm winter coat that was just designed to appear this way. For me, this purchase is a home run. The flannel coat appears effortless, yet is warm and trendy. I also liked this Fashionisto’s Cole Haan snow boots. They vaguely reminded me of L.L. Bean’s Bean Boots, which are a staple in almost all Fashionista’s wardrobes within the Ithaca area. Both types of boots prove highly functional in the harsh Ithaca weather and complement almost any flannel.

It’s hard to believe that flannels can be so trendy, despite the fact that they’ve been around for ages. However, due to their functionality and versatility, there’s a reason they’ve remained in style for so long. Flannels are easy to pair with leggings or jeans, and can even be paired with a skirt for a casual summertime look. Since flannels can be styled countless ways, they’re great investments for college students on a budget. Therefore, it’s safe to say the trend is here to stay.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “What I really want to wear are clothes that are comfortable and that I can relax in without feeling like I need to keep them looking perfect. I like formal clothes that look nice but at the same time, if I want to have a snowball fight I’m not afraid to let my jacket get all wet and snowy.”
