STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Complementing Colors

Skirts of all lengths, sizes and color have always been an essential item in every Fashionista’s closet. She always has one for every occasion, including spring, winter, summer, fall, fancy dinner parties, girl’s nights out and casual school days. Sometimes, when a Fashionista desperately wants to wear a specific skirt it can be tricky trying to put a whole outfit together. But, don’t fret, it is never impossible!

Take, for instance, this Fashionista’s simple skater skirt. The solid red color and tight fit at the waist make it incredibly simple to match tops with similar reds or complementary colors. This Fashionista chose a tight fitting crop top thats pattern and red details work perfectly against the solid tone of the skirt. Her loose fitting green jacket also complements her look because, as we all know, red and green are complementary colors! Each small detail in this Fashionista’s outfit works perfectly together to create a stylish look that is also incredibly simple and comfortable to wear.

So, as you’re staring into the abyss of your closet, shaking at the thought of putting together an entire outfit based on one skirt you so desperately want to wear, remember all of this advice! If you have a solid color skirt, complement it with a nice patterned top. Including the skirt color in your top is also a simple way to make sure your outfit looks well composed and neat. Also, if you want to wear a jacket over it, just make sure the colors complement your skirt in some way! They do not have to be exact complementary colors in the color wheel like this Fashionista’s were, but make sure it is pleasing to your own eye!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My favorite thing to do with outfits especially in the fall is to work with darker, gem tones like the red of the skirt. Colors like that have always seemed very elegant and pretty to me. Plus, they can go really well with each other because of how muted/desaturated they are!”
