STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: All Tied Up

It seems as though with every new fashion season there’s a new “it” accessory to covet. From chokers to colorful furry key chains, these highly sought trends always seem to originate on the runway. Judging from the runway shows and presentations by Michael Kors, Isabel Marant and Tibi, this season’s must have is lace-up flats.

The lace-up flat has the classic feel of a ballet flat, but with an edgy twist for those of us who are more Black Swan than Swan Lake. The lace-up flat can be found in materials such as suede, velvet and leather with styles from pointed toes to pom-pom laces. This versatility makes it easy to transition the shoe from different seasons to different outfits.

This Fashionista took a more formal route and created a look that is perfect for a job interview or an internship. She pairs her lace-up ballet flats with black pixie pants and a silk, plaid blouse. To accessorize the look she adds a simple jewel choker, a silver watch and white leather tote bag. Although this look is more formal, you can wear lace-up flats for almost any occasion. Paired with boyfriend jeans and a T-shirt, lace-up ballet flats make the perfect casual outfit to wear to class. For whatever the occasion, ditch your booties and heels for a pair of lace-up flats instead.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Even when I have to dress for a business casual event, I try to keep my outfits interesting. These lace-up flats are formal but still fun.”
