STYLE ADVICE: Holiday Glam in the Classroom

Every December we find ourselves purchasing new glittery and glamorous pieces to rock at holiday parties, but if you’re anything like me, it drives you absolutely crazy to watch them sit in your closet, unworn, for the rest of the year. I can’t stand watching my clothes waste away, so there’s nothing more important than finding new ways to re-work your pieces to be worn in more casual settings. I’ve found a Fashionista who masters this, bringing her New Years dress from night to day thanks to her accessories!

Although not everyone is comfortable wearing glitter to class, it’s super simple to dress down pieces that are a little on the glamorous side in order to get more wear out of them. This Fashionista styles her silver and sparkly dress from last year’s holiday season in an super casual way, which isn’t over the top as daywear. The most important factor in dressing down holiday wear is her choice in shoes. By pairing a simple pair of sneakers with a shimmery dress, this outfit is automatically much more casual and class-appropriate. Subdued makeup and simple, monochromatic accessories don’t detract attention from the glamorous dress. Adding a jacket on top, like this classic leather jacket, and tossing your stuff into a backpack as opposed to a clutch, seamlessly brings holiday pieces into the classroom.

As students, we’re all on tight budgets, so it’s super important to get as much wear as possible out of our entire wardrobes. If you’re inclined to buy a dazzling new dress for a holiday party, go for it—don’t let your fear of it sitting uselessly in your closet until next December hold you back because there are so many ways to style it as everyday wear. Who says glitter and glamour can’t be casual, no matter what the season?
