How I Organize My Busy College and Work Life

Just like that, with the blink of an eye, summer is over and fall semester is officially here. Which means that homework, deadlines, and the busy, daily routine of college are fast approaching, too. We all know that juggling multiple classes, a social life, and internships or a job is nearly impossible. So, it’s time to get organized! Being a full-time student, as well as working for two clothing lines, running a blog, and interning for CollegeFashionista, having free time for me is a luxury. Therefore, planning my weeks and being organized is a key to my success. Here are a few tips and tricks that help me organize my everyday life.

1— Write everything down.  I am the type of person that has to physically see things, so writing everything down, and I do mean everything, is what best works for me. So, having a planner to write down all my assignments, deadlines, work schedule, and upcoming events has been a lifesaver. Sometimes jotting down ideas on small pieces of paper or random parts of your notebook can get lost, which means that you can miss important dates and even assignments.

2—Color code everything. Maybe this is just my OCD kicking in, but I’ve discovered that color coding my planner has helped me stay organized and keep track of my assignments and personal events. For instance, if I am trying to find the next date for an upcoming test for a specific class, I will simply look at the dates that the specific color for that class appears on my calendar. Not only does this save me some time, but it also makes your agenda look much cuter.

3—Make to-do lists. No matter how organized and accurate you planner may be, just because you write it on your planner doesn’t mean it will get done. Making a to-do list for the day helps you focus on the most important tasks at hand and accomplish them faster than if you were to see a calendar full of events and errands.

4—Use your phone and computer calendar. Sometimes when I am running late and in a hurry to get out of the house, I often forget to grab my planner from my desk before heading out for the day. Luckily, I always make sure to have my computer and phone calendars in sync with my planner so that even if I do forget it at home, I’m still aware of any appointments, errands, or assignments that need to get done that day.

Getting and staying organized is simple once you’ve gotten the hang of it. Not only will this help you throughout your college days, but it will help once you graduate as well. Just don’t forget to schedule a lazy day to relax every once in a while.
