FASHION FROM ABROAD: Style Tips for Your Next Destination Tropical Vacation

January 25th, 2017 at 2:00am

It’s winter break for most of you Fashionistas, and you know what that means: traveling! For those of you who are fortunate enough to travel to warmer places this winter, I have some great new style tips for you! Below, I have a few key suggestions to looking cute while staying tourist appropriate when exploring the local downtown beach scene.

First thing’s first: check the weather of your location beforehand. This is important to note because it determines whether or not you’ll need to bring an umbrella or perhaps long pants or a light sweater if it gets cold out. If it looks like it is going to be a beautiful warm sunny day, then go ahead and pull out your favorite romper! Rompers are a fabulous invention because they can be as dressy and classy as a dress but much more functional. With rompers you are more likely to be able to find pockets attached to your garment, which are always helpful to have. More importantly, however, rompers are great for walking around town in because they don’t have that what-if-I-accidentally-flash-my-underwear-at-someone factor when a big breeze suddenly swoops by. Rompers can also be dressed up or dressed down, depending on the occasion and your destination.

This Fashionista is currently in Hawaii for her winter break vacation. She is wearing a pin-striped romper that is loose everywhere except for the waist, which can easily be cinched with a waist-tie. The pinstripes are a little less dressy, which is perfect for her look today, because she will be simply walking along the town’s beach boardwalk.

Next you want to pick out your accessories and makeup. She is wearing a pair of basic black sandals that should honestly be a staple in every person’s summer wardrobe. She is wearing a leather tote backpack because it can carry more stuff than a regular purse (like your sunscreen, bathing suit, a towel, book, etc.). If you want to glam up your leather backpack, a fur pom-pom key chain always adds some flair. She is also wearing her black velvet choker from Urban Outfitters. Also, a black velvet choker always gives a small boost of sex-appeal.

As for makeup, you always want to think about the heat you might encounter. Thus, you might want to forego the thick foundation and use either a tinted moisturizer with SPF or a little bit of waterproof concealer. As well, you want to brighten up your face without looking overdone for the beach. A bright coral or brick-red matte lipstick, like Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, will stay put all day through wear and tear. To top it off, I suggest a little bit of highlighter swept onto the high points of your face, to create a natural glow. Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed is a great powder formula that gives the best “glo-up” without looking sweaty.

Hope these tropical style tips help as you go abroad!
