Summer break has come to an end, and with semester creeping up on us so do all the stressors that come with it. It can be overwhelming as we go into our next term. Whether you’re facing a hard class or preparing for graduation, there are a lot of things to be anxious about. But with a positive attitude and a bit of organization, you can tackle the new semester. I have 10 tips to help you prepare and get ahead of the game. This college to-do list will ensure you’ll have an amazing start to the rest of the year!

  • Finalize Your Class Schedule. Get organized and make sure that you like your classes. This will make your semester have a smooth start. I would even suggest meeting with your advisor and introducing yourself to your new professors via email. It will show you have initiative and are ready to work hard.
  • Track down Your Textbooks. Look up your suggested list of textbooks, but save a little money and research if there are cheaper options. Often times your school bookstore will sell them used and many are readily available to rent online.
  • Purchase a New Planner. Pick out a cute planner for the new year and outline upcoming events you already know about. Also, start writing down your upcoming assignments as you receive all your syllabi.
  • Clean Your Living Space. Use the new semester to redecorate your dorm or apartment. If you start off neat and tidy, you’ll be more likely to stay that way as the year goes on. Try incorporating new decorations to spice up your space!
  • Get Happy about Getting Healthy. Hit the gym and adapt a new workout routine. Also, try to eat healthier and drink lots of water. After all, a healthy you is a happy you.
  • Get Involved. Try a school group that’s related to your major, join a club sports team, or try going greek. Step out of your comfort zone and try something you have been wanting to do, but haven’t had the courage to start yet.
  • Apply for a Job. Trying to get a job while at school is actually beneficial for learning time management. Getting a little bit of income is always a plus, to. Just try not to stress yourself with working too many hours.
  • Find Ways to Relieve Stress. Figure out the things you can do that help you unwind when you feel overwhelmed. Set aside some time each week to do things like apply a face mask, listen to music, or go on a run. Make sure you are taking good care of yourself, because school can get the best of you.
  • Save Time to Have Fun. Go out with your friends or plan something that you can all do together. Things like movie nights, ice skating, and dining hall dinner dates are all cost effective ways to have a good time.
