BEAUTY BAR: Say Yes to Shampoo Bars

With just a quick glance around the room, I reached well over a dozen pieces of plastic in no time. From packaging and shopping bags to one-use bottles and containers, our lives are practically dependent on plastic. Nightmare worthy, I know! It wasn’t always like this and it surely doesn’t have to be. The task can be daunting, but this Fashionista shows us one simple example of how readily available alternatives are.

This Fashionista used a product I have been dying to try, and is rocking long locks to show it off. To achieve this look she used a lemon-scented shampoo bar, a product becoming quite popular in the eco-market. If you are not familiar, shampoo bars look just like any other bar of soap but instead are full of concentrated shampoo that can be used for months of clean hair.

Whether you have a ma-and-pa shop that sells all your favorite natural products down the road or just find it easier to stop into Lush on your way out of the mall, shampoo bars are an easy and fun alternative to liquid shampoo. Not only are you keeping out the harsh chemicals often found in commercial brands, you’re ditching the need for plastic containers. What a win-win!

If you’re up for a small challenge, you can even whip up a batch yourself. My roommates and I found that DIY cleaning and hygiene products are a great money saver. Besides, I cannot think of a better bonding experience than conjuring up recipes with coconut oil and other household finds in the apartment kitchen.

This Fashionista kept her look neutral and monochrome with a cowl neck sweater and vest to complement her red hair. With a pair of brown booties and simple leather watch, she is ready to head to class feeling cozy and comfortable.
