BEAUTY BAR: Curling Short Hair

July 31st, 2015 at 2:10am

If there were one hairstyle I would walk into my hair salon and ask for if I were bold enough, it would be the short layered bob haircut. I have yet to work up the courage to chop off inches of my hair, even though right now would be the appropriate time considering the heat wave New York City is enduring. I know for the Fashionistas that embrace the short hair trend, curling it is a different trick. That’s why my article this week features a lovely Fashionista who is confidently rocking her short locks.

Since the layered haircut creates a waterfall effect, this Fashionista says that the best way to curl her hair is to toss it back. She suggests curling the shorter layers with a curling iron without using the clasp. Wrap the hair around the iron, like how a wand would work, and simply let the strands hold for 10 seconds. Release the strand and hold the curl in your hand then let it fall down. Repeat these steps. Try curling the strands in opposite directions, as well, for a more natural effect. The Fashionista curls the strands near her face outward in order to frame her face and create more volume. The curls look bouncy and not overdone. She seals the curls with a finishing hair spray to last throughout the day.

If this Fashionista doesn’t convince you to go for the shorter length, I don’t know who will! She definitely knows how to style the chop without regretting the shorter length.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? To recreate this look, the curling iron needed should be an inch or an inch and half. Several clips and finishing hair spray can be necessary.
