AROUND TOWN: Jackie Goldman

With the beach less than five minutes away, UCSD is known for its laid-back aura and surfer culture. Style trends involve comfortable clothing appropriate for the sunny weather or for studying long hours in the school’s library. So when someone comes along like this Fashionista, it’s definitely a sight worth noting. I got to interview Jackie, an apprentice for Trend Magazine, to learn more about her personal style and the work she does for UCSD’s student-run fashion magazine.

Name: Jackie Goldman

Role: Apprentice for Trend Magazine

CollegeFashionista: How did you get involved with Trend?

Jackie Goldman: I got involved in Trend Magazine because I have always thought that fashion is such a positive outlet to express yourself. Trend promotes this self-expression by taking pictures of students in their everyday outfit and posting it on social media. I was thrilled when I was stopped and interviewed by a Trend staff member–it made my day. Thus, I applied to be a Trend intern the following quarter.

CF: Describe your personal style.

JG: I’m all about the accessories! I love simple clothes and then adding some colorful socks or a rad headband.

CF: Where do you pull inspiration from?

JG: I would say that I am most inspired by people I see in classes or at coffee shops. I love seeing a mom shopping at the grocery store in awesome boots and think that if she can look super hip while running errands, I can be stylish going from class to class too. I’m all about practicality and getting long use out of my wardrobe so I try to buy pieces that I know can adjust with the changing trends. For example, Dr. Martens, in my opinion, will always be in style if you pair it with the right outfit.

CF: What are some summer trends you are looking forward to?

JG: I am loving the casual ball cap look for summer. It has a sporty but fashion forward feel to it. I’m also excited about the bohemian fabric pant for the summer time! You can wear it with a crop top for the hot afternoon and then throw on a jacket when it gets breezy at night.
