AROUND TOWN: Allie Barke

Part-time business student/part-time trend setter is DePaul student Allie Barke. Allie started her blog when she was just a junior in high school; from style and beauty to health, Allie has been climbing her way in the industry. I was fortunate enough to meet Allie, get the inside scoop and capture this Fashionisa’s gorgeous outfit wearing a classic Topshop trench coat, romper, flats and leather backpack.

Name: Allie Barke

Role: Student Fashion Blogger

CollegeFashionista: What inspired you to start a blog?

Allie Barke: I wanted an outlet to share my style and opinions. I have always been a strong writer and have had strong opinions on how women should dress, so a blog seemed like a natural step.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

AB: My style is very feminine; I’m definitely a girly girl. I’m the girl who will show up to an 8:00 a.m. final wearing a new dress. Also, first and foremost, I have to feel comfortable in what I’m wearing. If you’re not comfortable and confident, it shows.

CF: Who are your style icons?

AB: I love Taylor Swift’s style. She dresses in a way that’s feminine and flirty, but still very classy. Some of my other style icons are Alexa Chung and blogger, Leandra Medine.

CF: How is your blog different from the billion other blogs out there?

AB: I think my blog has a clear point of view. I’m not just posting pictures of what I wear. I’m showing girls that fashion should be fun, and that it’s important to look great but that you should do so in a classy, sophisticated way.

CF: What are your plans and goals for the future as a professional blogger once you graduate?

AB: I have already been monetizing my content and partnering with brands for collaborations. I would love for my blog to turn into a full time career. I plan to learn as much as I can from other successful bloggers and to continue blogging to get my message out there.

CF: What advice would you give to anyone looking to start a blog?

AB: I would say just go for it. There is virtually no start up cost and it’s a lot of fun, so there’s nothing to lose. Even if blogging just remains a hobby, it’s something unique that you can put on your resume.
