ALL IN THE DETAILS: Zip, Zip, Hooray

Anoraks are the omnipresent dress code at Philadelphia University. Synonymous with the word “parka,” anoraks have been popularized by classic retailers, Gap and L.L.Bean. With their deep pockets, thick lining and water-resistant fabric, these functional coats are the quintessential winter outerwear. Anoraks are typically either black or an army green color. To avoid looking completely like your peers, choose an anorak with an unexpected accent.

This Fashionista sported a classic army green anorak that had a neon zipper. Standing out in a sea of black and green parkas is no easy feat, but this special accent really popped. Neon can be difficult to rock in the winter, but the contrast of the orange on the green was unique in a tasteful way.

With a feature like this, there is no need to accessorize, so the Fashionista kept the rest of her look fairly basic. Some black leggings, riding boots and knee-high socks were all she needed to complete her look.

How To: While you shop around for anoraks, be on the look out for a variety of special add-ons. Leather sleeves, embroidered pockets and unconventional color-blocking are sure to spice up your outerwear. Can’t find any of these options? You can DIY a conventional anorak. Sew tapestry fabric around the pockets, attach some fur around the hood or even paint your zipper a punchy color. The options are endless. Once you’ve found your pretty parka, you will stand out among your peers while simultaneously braving the cold.
