ALL IN THE DETAILS: Tie One On

So maybe the last time you wore a neck scarf was the Girl Scout sock hop in the 5th grade. But back then you were young, naive and had no idea your Limited Too leggings gave you major VPL. So this fall, ditch the poodle skirt and frilly socks and think more along the lines of raw denim jeans and leather jackets. Basically, transform yourself into a badass Audrey Hepburn. An easy way to quickly amp up any basic outfit is the neck scarf: the casual yet cool cousin of summers popular choker. Tie on this simple accessory and turn heads with your amazingly fab look. No one will have to know it only took you half a minute to throw together.

While thrift shops or vintage boutiques might have cheap bandanas, floral silk scarves and the ultra-rare real-deal Hermès, no one really has the time to search high and low for that perfect find. My solution: DIY that bad boy. You can make exactly what you want for just about half the price. So, go grab a plain handkerchief or a square scrap of fabric. For a fun pattern, you can grab a potato and effortlessly carve your own custom stamp. I suggest something modern and simple, such as repetitive lines or dots. Use some vibrant acrylic paint and stamp your design until you get your ideal look. Not sure what color to choose? I suggest you check out Pantone’s Fall Fashion Color Report 2016 where you can peek at this season’s hottest colors; from airy blue to dusty cedar. As a faithful achromat, I chose timeless black to create a versatile neck scarf I can wear with multiple outfits. Not sure how to wear it without looking like your grandmother? Tie the scarf around your neck like a choker, knot it in back, and tuck in the ends. This will keep you looking polished with minimal effort.

So tie one on with your best denim and leather combo, and show the world who’s boss.
