ALL IN THE DETAILS: Throwback

Always being on the lookout for comfort and fashionable outfits is a hobby of mine, so when I noticed this Fashionista looking so relaxed in her one piece, statement ensemble I had to take pointers. Overall, her outfit reminded of everything ’90s, so I instantly thought her style was part of a throwback trend. Always bringing things back, aren’t we?

Our Fashionista’s throwback essence is in the details of her outfit with a skater dress, chunky high-top sneakers and aviator sunglasses. Layering although possible in the summer can just be too much at times hence why she wore basically a one piece outfit. It’s hard to figure out how to make one item work but sometimes all it takes are the basic items, part of the reason why they’re essential in everyone’s closets.

It was the little things that made me love her outfit. The half-up ponytail hairdo with a good old scrunchie is a statement all on its own. The specks of color in her sunglasses brighten up her black and white ensemble as well. Let’s not forget the play of print. Back in the ’90s prints got very trippy at times. Patterns of all kinds can give optical illusions so designers loved playing with them and still do.

I totally get that prints are not for everyone but knowing how to wear them correctly for the odd occasion that you may use them can come in handy. Beware, linear prints can either make you look taller/shorter or wider so choose wisely.

Since we are talking about throwbacks here what decade does your style resemble? Start with that in mind. More than likely your closet is packed with clues on what trend you’re mostly into already. Remember that it’s not about what you can do with your wardrobe, it’s about what it can do for you!

How To: If you’re looking to take it a step further to achieve these vintage looks, then I will cover what you’ll need: 1. Grab a print or pattern item. In this case, it was all about linear print making it a one piece outfit with a skater dress.  2. Your hairdo must play the part, too. Whether it’s teasing it or pulling out the scrunches, there’s plenty of tutorials out there to help out. 3. Pick accessories that scream ’90s (chokers, mood rings, stick-on earrings).
