ALL IN THE DETAILS: The Blanket Scarf

You may or may not remember back in 2012 when Lenny Kravitz wore thee blanket scarf of blanket scarves in New York City. Luckily, the photos recently resurfaced and let’s just say I’ve been obsessing over them this winter. With the temperatures hitting record lows, it is absolutely appropriate to rock your favorite throw blanket around your neck. But really, they might as well be throws with their long length and cozy thickness.

I spotted this Fashionista a mile away with her multi-colored striped blanket scarf. Though not as extravagant as Mr. Kravitz’s, this Fashionista’s blanket scarf is perfect for every day wear. With all eyes on the scarf, this Fashionista kept the base of her outfit simple. This Fashionista’s taupe cocoon coat served as the perfect background to complement the red accent stripes on her scarf. Under her coat, she wore a neutral cable knit sweater with a simple pair of black trousers. Her studded heel booties added a bit of edginess to the outfit as well as structure. When wearing a piece that drapes down the majority of your body, a heel can add the necessary length to balance out the fabric to body ratio. Wear the scarf, don’t let the scarf wear you.

How To: Trade in your infinite scarf for the largest scarf you can fine. Seriously! With spring still a while away, you can still get great use out of a blanket scarf. Blanket scarves are without a doubt statement pieces, so be sure to keep a good balance of colors and textures within your outfit. For a scarf such as the one this Fashionista is wearing, pair your favorite dark wash jeans or black trousers with a simple, solid color sweater. With this look, you can choose to tuck the scarf into your coat or play it up and let it all hang loose.
