ALL IN THE DETAILS: Shoe Envy

Gladiator sandals have been around since the beginning of human civilization, literally. It’s quite apparent to anyone who has walked into a retail store or perused any major e-commerce site, that gladiators have recently transformed into a staple style for summer footwear. These flirty and very trendy summer sandals have also been making a huge appearance on the runway. From Alberta Ferretti spring 2015 to Alexander McQueen, gladiators have been taking over. Lucky enough for all you who are absolutely loving gladiators at the moment, this trend will continue well into the fall with various designers and brands showing various interpretations including lace up and cutout knee high boots. But let’s not wish away the warm weather too quickly.

This Fashionista’s gladiators were definitely the focal point of her outfit. She chose to style her faux leather, knee-high gladiators with an all black lace romper. Be careful when planning an outfit to showcase this style of sandal. Wearing a colorful outfit or an outfit with a pattern can detract from the shoes or even make an outfit look too busy. The lace floral texture of her romper was a great subtle addition to the outfit, that didn’t take away attention from her sandals.

While she picked up hers from Metro, a State College area boutique for which she works, she assured us that a wide array of retailers also carry similar styles for a reasonable price.

Wear them, don’t let them wear you. Gladiator sandals make a bold statement and have the ability to bring out the edge and confidence of the woman wearing them. That being said, they can also be very hard to pull off.

How To: If you’re anything like me and have shorter more muscular legs, knee high gladiators don’t always look the best on. These Jeffery Campbell ‘Hola’ gladiators cut off just above the ankle and are a little more flattering for my figure. Pairing these Topshop ‘Figtree’ gladiators with a lightweight, flowy sundress can create an easy, well put-together summer look.
