ALL IN THE DETAILS: Prints For a Prince

With summer finally here, I’m sure you’re all dying to switch out your dark basics with fun, bright prints. The warm weather is a great time to experiment with different patterns and colors. This Fashionisto used his patterned button-down as the focus of his outfit, without it overbearing the rest of the look.

This look was a great example of how to wear prints without straying from your comfort zone too much. The pattern on the shirt was a small floral print, which wasn’t too noticeable from far away. It wass also a monochromatic print, with varying shades of blue. This allowed the Fashionisto to use both color and print without making the outfit too busy.

Patterned pieces can be tricky to use if you don’t pair them well. This Fashionisto paired the shirt with a pair of gray skinny jeans, allowing the focus to be on the shirt. The simple pants and accessories allowed the shirt to have the spotlight. By pairing the outfit with boat shoes, the cool, summer vibe was still there without overpowering the look.

This Fashionisto’s look illustrates how to experiment with prints without going overboard. By pairing a monochromatic print with other basic pieces, he was able to successfully pull off a chic look perfect for any day event this summer.

How To: To recreate this Fashionisto’s look, find your own perfect, patterned piece. Whether it’s a shirt dress or tank top, pair it with other basic pieces to make the print more wearable.
