ALL IN THE DETAILS: Pretty in Prints

Spotted! A fashion risk taker strutting down the streets of Boston in an outfit bold enough for a celebrity. In amazement, I observed how this Fashionista paired oversized pieces with bold prints and textures to create an impeccable look. It’s no secret that animal print and faux fur can often be a recipe for disaster if not put together in a tasteful way. If overdone with vibrant colors and big jewelry, the look may be one fake gemstone short of tacky.

However, this Fashionista did a fantastic job at incorporating her animal print scarf and her faux fur vest into a perfect marriage of fun and sophisticated. She was very careful not to over-accessorize. Keeping the accessories chic but minimal is the key to sporting loud prints and textures in a classy way. Coco Chanel was right when she said, “Once you’ve dressed, and before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.” It seems that this Fashionista did just that. She is carrying a simple, black Zac Posen bag, black frame Chanel sunglasses, brown suede over-the-knee boots and a pair of green gloves.

Neutral colors keep this Fashionista’s look toned down and tasteful. Earth tones instead of bold colors give her a more mature look. The faux fur vest and the large, animal print scarf add an interesting element to an otherwise subtle look. These two pieces, working together with her simple gray turtleneck and white jeggings, transform her ensemble into a statement. This shows how simply adding a texture and a pattern can really transform your look and help you establish your own unique style.

How To: Want to spice up your style without buying a new wardrobe? No worries. A plain, long sleeve top and a pair of jeans can be transformed into a showstopping outfit with just a few simple additions. An oversized scarf, like the one this Fashionista is wearing, is great because these scarves come in many colors and patterns. Over-the-knee boots are also a great way to spice things up and are practical for winter. Also, don’t forget your fur vest! This will really bring the whole look together.
