ALL IN THE DETAILS: Pin-up Girl

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, one of my favorite things about what you put on your body every day is that it allows you to express yourself and there are truly endless items one can work with to do so. An option of self-expression is the use of pins to add a ’90s touch on any outfit, which is something that has been becoming as much as a trend now as it was then. The cool thing about pins is that they are sometimes available for free and at most are around four dollars—right within a college Fashionista’s budget. I like to think of them as bumper stickers for your purse, jacket or wherever you want to sport them. Using pins adds a lot of personality to your pieces and make your look more eclectic.

This Fashionista has been collecting pins on her purse for about a year now, coveting them from different tourist attractions, Goodwill, small bookstores, political rallies and more. Her favorite ones are her Pony Club pin, Bernie Sanders “Feel the BERN!” pin, her “core strength” apple pun pin and cow pin.

How To: To recreate this look, you’ll need to begin with what you want to put your pins on! I recommend something with sturdy fabric, such as a canvas purse like this Fashionistas or a denim jacket. From there, all you have to do is keep a keen eye out for pins that reflect your interests, activities, jobs and hobbies. If you’re willing to make more of an investment than the average 50 cent pin, there are also pin-making machines available for purchase at many craft stores and online! The possibilities are endless with one of those puppies in your hand.
