ALL IN THE DETAILS: Mixing Textures

It is everywhere! From Acne Studios to Alexander Wang, different fabrics and materials have been paired up to created a multidimensional look. Although sticking to one material can give an out a sleek and clean look, mixing textures is the way to go this winter season. Not only is it trendy, but it is a fun way to change up your look and it is also fun to mix and match fabrics. Whether it is a light material like cotton or a heavy material like wool, each fabric has its own texture and movement which comes together to create a stylish outfit.

Check out this Fashionista! She did a great job of incorporating many textures in her outfit, but she is still looking chic. Deciding to go for a monochromatic look, she is able to pull of wearing these different textures because her color scheme is neutral and won’t make her outfit look too busy. Starting with knit, she stays warm in an oversized cream turtleneck sweater. Adding more texture, she pairs it with leather leggings for an edgy spark to her look. She doesn’t stop there! This Fashionista rocks a beautiful pair of knee-high suede boots. To finish it off, she is wearing a big wool coat and an edgy studded leather backpack to match her leggings.

How To: What happens if it is not winter anymore and there’s no knit, wool or other fabrics you only wear in the freezing weather? No worries! What is great about mixing textures is that one material can have several textures depending on the design. So grab a cute textured crop top, a lightweight chiffon kimono and some destroyed boyfriend jeans. You just incorporated three textures in your outfit!
