ALL IN THE DETAILS: Mixing Patterns

Spring is coming and out here in Illinois the weather can be super bipolar. There’s those super warm days where you don’t even need a jacket and then there’s those days where you feel like you live in the arctic. Personally on those warmer days I like to remind myself that summer is coming and that’s when I like to show a little more skin than the typical winter clothes allow. This Fashionista is anticipating spring as much as I am with this über cute outfit.

Mixing prints doesn’t have to be hard. You just have to know how to keep it simple but still noticeable. This particular Fashionista paired a versatile summer crop top with a flowy, patterned kimono. The pattern on the crop top is the same color as the shirt so it doesn’t seem too crazy when paired with the orange kimono. The contrast between the fabric of the crop top and the kimono give the look visual interest and helps keep the outfit from looking too basic.

To keep this look appropriate for that awkward period between winter and spring, she paired it with some high rise or mid-rise jeans.  The pattern continues down to the feet with these cut out shoes. The flats add a little bit of extra oomph to the outfit. The pattern cut out of the flats mixed with the patterns on the shirt and kimono make this outfit the perfect fashion statement. I would wear this look to hang out with friends on the weekend, run some errands, or maybe to go get coffee with that guy you met on Tinder!

How To: Break out one of your favorite summer crop tops and your trendy high-waisted jeans. Pair that with your cutest kimono and voilà! If it’s a bit too cold for your liking outside throw on a light jacket instead of the kimono and you’re ready to go! The crop top and jeans is all you need to start and whatever you choose to wear on top will look fabulous!
