Structured bags function well for a daily commute to the office or for a Fashionista/o that’s on the go since they are roomy enough to store your MacBook Pro, notepads and any other work related items. Not often do I see these bags as playful, unique accessories. However, when I saw this Fashionista carrying this vibrant yellow tote, I was intrigued. After getting a closer look, I realized that she had purchased it at Common Era, the women’s boutique in downtown Denver that I am employed at (which was a funny coincidence). The lively color of her bag offsets the seriousness that a structured tote may come across as. This piece is ideal for summer but could transition into fall when paired with ‘70s-inspired suede pieces and a cozy cardigan.

This Fashionista revealed to me that she had recently started a personal style blog, which explains the amount of detailing in her outfit. While her yellow bag was definitely the first thing that caught my attention, her other accessories really make her outfit pop. Her yellow and green bracelet and chunky necklace perfectly complemented the colors in her tote, blue camisole and black leather mini skirt. This Fashionista showed her personality and ability to mix and match separates through her ensemble. This pays off because the pieces enhance each other, instead of competing against one another.

How To: In order to rock a bright yellow bag, you could use it as the focal point of the outfit, keeping your clothing neutral. Another option is to go all out with color, just like this Fashionista did. Either way, your bag will stand out from the crowd!
