ALL IN THE DETAILS: Keeping it Covered

In this warm and wonderful winter look, details are everything. Well, in this season in general, details are everything. Winter is really the time of year for ultimate accessorization as we tend to cover up every part of our bodies in attempts to stay hopelessly warm. From bobble hats, to fancy faux leather gloves, to the ever-important scarves, it truly is all in the details.

So, for this article, I got really inspired by this on-campus keep warm look. While the largest garments generally consists of pretty simple color-blocking and geometric shapes, it’s the small gestures of the outfit she gets right on the nose for this season. For one, the chunky black boots not only add an edginess to contrast the clean of the look, but also provide some retro inspiration. This is something to really be focusing on, because now more than ever, people are starting to dig through their mom’s closets to pull out those really old, really dynamic pieces and wear them on the street. Alongside this, the simple hat and mittens show you are never too fashionable to be warm and cozy, and might as well wear the stuff you’ve always had for when it’s freezing. Finally, this look it utterly perfected with the attentive detail given to the fantastic glitter tights. Not only are tights a great (often forgotten) alternative to wearing pants when it’s chilly, but these tights incorporate a fun pattern and sparkle to complete the look. It breaks up the blocks of color with an unexpected twist.

For me, fashion in the winter months has always been a lot harder. This usually comes from the need to be wearing at least 500 layers as well as stupid hats to keep your ears warm, but it’s really amazing to see how college kids challenge this and keep winter fashionable (especially since we are constantly trekking around campus). Like I said earlier, you really shouldn’t be afraid to keep the old, but just make sure to mix it up with the new. Whether it be fabulous sparkle tights or just a funky new coat, it’s a lot easier to make the season’s looks more interesting. Contrast is always something to keep in the back of your mind, as this look proves its worth and overall, just don’t be afraid to try something a little different the next time you step outside.
