ALL IN THE DETAILS: Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Red Polka-Dot Scarf

I’ve officially dubbed myself a “basic white girl” based simply off of the fact that I literally cannot even with the bipolarity of the weather this year. I kid you not, it was 75 degrees three weeks ago, and then the next two weeks, we had lows of zero at night. My wardrobe changes are actually as unstable as Amanda Bynes. Winter, spring, winter, spring—what’s the happy medium? Luckily, scarves are the biggest trend for transitioning seasons because of the variety of styles and textures they come in. Dress them up with a dress or skirt, or dress them down with jeans or leggings. Just make sure you’re dressing them to impress.

This week’s Fashionista is donning the perfect scarf, emulating an appropriate amount of brightness on the first day back to spring weather after an unexpected snowstorm. “Go to the South,” they said. “It’s warm,” they said. Thankfully, the temperatures are back up and mid-March is hinting at the beginning of spring. Scarves are the accessory that don’t get old from season to season. Although I don’t recommend wearing your heaviest scarf in mid-March, there are many scarves destined for style and trendiness rather than warmth. This is the perfect time of year to invest in those scarves that your mom always yelled at you for buying because “beauty ISN’T pain” in frostbite form.

This Fashionista’s bright red and gray, polka-dot scarf adds that pop of color we’re seeing so much of on the runway this season. It’s cheerful, and it really adds a contrast over her light blue chambray shirt. However, you can also tell that it isn’t heavy material and is mainly there for the wonderful sake of fashion. This look paired with the classic black leggings is a staple at my job at American Eagle Outfitters. Black riding boots were a great addition, and a comfortable one at that! The crème coat dons that it’s still winter, but desperate for spring. She accessorized with an adorable watch and several Ani and Alex bracelets. Whether you’re headed to the library, or out to grab dinner with friends, this look is fun and trendy.

How To: This chic, casual look is super easy to imitate! Grab your favorite pair of leggings and riding boots, and match them with a simple, plain chambray shirt. If you go to school up North and it’s still a bit chillier, opt for a similar style in sweater material. Throw on a lightweight, patterned scarf for a bold look, and accessorize to your taste. Stay warm!
