ALL IN THE DETAILS: Hats Off

July 6th, 2015 at 2:00am

As we all know, summer is the season for fun. Three months of vacation allows more than enough time for cross-country drives, trips to the beach, fishing on the lake—you get the picture. And nothing channels the laid back summer fun of childhood like a good ol’ baseball cap!

A cap is a good borrowed-from-the-boys essential that you can easily incorporate into your summer wardrobe. In addition to shielding your face from the sun and harmful UV rays, it can give a simple outfit an entirely different feel. What’s more, a cap is perfect if you’re having a particularly awful hair day.

This Fashionista has chosen to beat the heat in a relatively simple pieces in order to let her hat make a statement. A simple striped T-shirt like this one from American Apparel gives her outfit a throwback ‘70s skater boy vibe. Cut-off shorts paired with the classic Southern Californian leather flip flops from Rainbow Sandals further the laid-back tomboy look. However, this is where her cap comes into play. Rather than give her look a total skater girl vibe, her tan Carhartt cap takes her look from the boardwalk to the country. Her loose ponytail also gives the look a more feminine twist. This Fashionista is definitely ready for fishing or just lazing around at the lake!

How To: Pair a simple striped T-shirt with casual jean shorts and flip flops. Allow your cap—whether it’s representing Carhartt or your favorite baseball team—to be the centerpiece of your outfit. If you’re pulling your hair back in a ponytail, bun or chignon behind your cap, allow a few face-framing pieces of hair to fall loose if you want a more feminine look.
