ALL IN THE DETAILS: Grunge-Chic

Winter is a cruel, brutal, unbearable season. And in case it wasn’t clear, I am not a fan. Having lived in the southernmost regions of the U.S., anything below 40 is enough to send shivers down my spine. Needless to say, I spend most of the winter trying to figure out how to bundle up without looking too much like a dweeb with my arms sticking straight out from too many layers like in A Christmas Story.

This Fashionista has the solution to all our woes of waking up for 8:00 a.m. classes, running around in the snow and feeling like keeping it cozy. Throw on your favorite parka, and here is fashion. I’m only half kidding. As any Fashionista in colder climates (or simply constantly cold as I am) knows, the key to keeping your personal style in colder months is a warm base layer with a killer top coat.

To get the look of this Fashionista, start off with your favorite pair of fitted joggers to keep the look comfy and stylish. Next, add a few of your favorite outerwear pieces, such as a patterned scarf to elevate the look and add a feminine quality to an otherwise grunge ensemble that’s both perfect for class and comfortable enough to get you through a long day.

In keeping with the grunge vibe of the outfit, this Fashionista opts for a pair of distressed red kicks that give the look an extra edge and just enough personality to tie it all together. After all, just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you should completely bundle up your style and hide it under a pile of layers; trust me.

How To: Don’t stress dressing for winter. A few key pieces that keep in line with your style, such as scarves or a good parka can keep you warm and true to your style during winter without having A Christmas Story type scenario on your hands.
