ALL IN THE DETAILS: Cold Capsule

Dressing for a Wisconsin winter is no easy task. Dressing for a Wisconsin winter, while also looking polished and stylish, is even harder. With that in mind, I’m always on the lookout for new ways to style practical pieces, which is why this Fashionista caught my eye!

Dressed in all black, I was already head-over-heels with her styling choices. Her flat brim hat, Mulberry bag (that converts to a satchel and a backpack), and Christian Louboutin ankle boots create a look that, to the immediate eye, appears effortlessly cool. Get a little bit closer, and you’ll find a number of special little details that only strengthen what’s already in front of you. From running daily errands to pausing for a warm vanilla latte, this Fashionista is ready for anything.

Braving the cold, this Fashionista removed her coat and surprised me with a BCBG Max Azria structured jacket, complete with floral detailing, layered over a simple tank top. Winter florals have become quite popular among designers, and this Fashionista pulls them off perfectly! The structured element to her jacket creates an interesting dynamic with the sweet, mini florals that not only elevates her look, but also helps to flatter her figure. Throughout winter, and all too often, our figures get lost under thick sweaters and puffy coats, so this unexpected twist was welcomed.

With a capsule wardrobe (i.e. her closet is comprised of only 50 pieces), being creative to get the most out of what she owns is a must. The functionality of her bag is one factor I still can’t get over. If there’s one piece everyone should invest in, a bag that changes with you is definitely it. Next up: Sliver accessories. Being more drawn to gold myself, I was impressed with how well silver accessories were tied together in this look. With simple Pandora earrings, a classic Kate Spade New York metal watch, and silver detailing on her handbag, this look is perfectly balanced from head to toe.

The key to elevating any cold weather look is not necessarily in how many layers you’re wearing, but how you wear them. Achieving this look is simple! Cater to your personal style by adding in your favorite pieces and always remember to find balance within your accessories. After all, it’s the little things that help build the bigger picture (or a better outfit).
