ALL IN THE DETAILS: Clad In Plaid

The grass is freshly green and flowers are starting to bloom—spring is finally right around the corner! Although the weather has not been warming up lately in Santa Cruz, it still doesn’t stop our excitement for the sweet and beautiful season. Spring not only calls for warmer weather, but also fresh spring fashion trends. One material in particular—plaid—has been seen all over the runway. Although plaid is a common material, it is hard to incorporate into your unique style. This Fashionista was able to change her plaid shirt to fit her grungy style.

She first layered her oversized olive green and dark gray plaid shirt over a simple gray shirt. In order to fit her subdued gray-green palette, she threw on a pair of loose grayish blue jeans. She cuffed the ends of her jeans to give a more laid-back look. Her black ankle boots added more of an edge to her overall look. Last but not least, she threw on a gray backpack to finish off her outfit.

Her outfit was simple, but to the point. She was able to turn a simple and common plaid shirt into a statement piece. The plaid added a pop of color to her otherwise gray ensemble. Since the plaid shirt had a more subdued tone, it paired perfectly with her other neutral clothing items.

Plaid is one of the most common clothing materials. It is easy to underestimate how plaid can change up an outfit. Try pairing your plaids to fit your personal style!

How To: Do you have a plaid shirt that is too big on you? Try wrapping a belt over your plaid button-up for a casual look. If it is too cold to wear it alone, try pairing it with a pair of black leggings or tights.
