ALL IN THE DETAILS: City Slicker

East Coast city dwellers are notorious for dressing in all-black, all the time. Whether you embrace the dark uniform or reject it, it’s hard to ignore the ubiquitous look dominating the streets. A little black dress, a black leather jacket or even a black Chanel flap bag are stylish classics, which is probably why many Fashionistas/os choose to wear it so often. An all-black outfit exudes class and mystery with a sophisticated vibe. Even though this look can be seen during almost any season, it doesn’t translate into being boring, especially if you accessorize. Subtle details or adding in some complementary neutral tones can totally transform an all black outfit.

This Fashionista took inspiration from a typical dark-toned, monochromatic look with a cropped black leather jacket, a tie die black and gray maxi dress and a classic black ankle boot. She added gray winter accessories with some sparkle and sunnies to amp up the style and stand out from the crowd. This look is especially unique due to taking a summer staple, the maxi dress, and wearing it as a cold weather piece. Layering up with a sweater underneath or a cool jacket can transition summer style into cooler weather. Since the weather is still chilly for warmth, this Fashionista added fingerless gloves with silver metal buttons and a pom-pom beanie with flecks of sparkle to add detail to her dark look. The clear framed sunglasses with purple tinted lenses add another detailed dimension to the neutral look.

How To: Achieving this look is super simple. Choose a dress or jumpsuit in a dark tone and top it off with a jacket in a similar color with a contrasting texture. Keep the shoes simple and get ready to make the look interesting with lots of accessories. Add a blanket scarf or hat if you’re facing the cold or add stacking rings and layered necklaces to add depth to an otherwise colorless look.
