ALL IN THE DETAILS: Chokers, This Is What Dreams Are Made Of

July 28th, 2016 at 2:00am

Growing up I loved watching Lizzie McGuire. What seven-year-old girl in the 2000s didn’t? I loved Lizzie’s adventures and especially loved what she wore. I would take inspiration from her outfits and then head over to The Limited Too to buy a new sparkly purse or funky hat. One of my favorite pieces inspired by the show, was the infamous plastic choker necklace. I can remember thinking I knew everything about being fashionable when I walked down my elementary school hallway in my choker. But, by the time middle school hit it seemed like everyone had put their chokers in the back of their jewelry boxes as the fad slowly died down. Now, fast forward 10 years and my favorite accessory has finally made its comeback! Choker necklaces have remerged in all different shapes and sizes, becoming this summer’s biggest trend. You can probably spot at least two girls wearing one every time you go outside. They have added an extra spice that casual outfits need in a simple, but bold way.

While this Fashionista’s outfit is relatively simple, the added accessories, especially the choker, make it a head turner. She chose a daring black color scheme for all of her accessories which brings out hipster vibes from her burnt orange top, and her comfortable denim skinny jeans give off a sense that her style was created effortlessly. This Fashionista’s choker also highlights the silver and gold hues that are brought into play by her stacked rings and watch. Chokers are great for almost any casual occasion whether it’s out shopping with your mom or dancing at music festivals with your friends. When deciding which choker is right for you, choose one that is looser around your neck. They are called chokers, but no one can have fun or look good when they are uncomfortably struggling for air.

How To: Feel like you can’t pull off the wearing a choker? Test the waters with a simple dinner out with friends or family. Add other accessories like this Fashionista did to keep peoples’ focuses constantly shifting to make you feel more comfortable!
