ALL IN THE DETAILS: Bringing Back the Classics

Everyone wants to be on trend these days, either to have the latest accessory, whether it is that Michael Kors bag that everyone is raving about or the BCBG pumps that have been calling your name. Sometimes just wearing the classics makes you stand out. This is especially true in men’s wear and suits. You can’t go wrong with a navy suit, however you can do modern, trendy details. In the above look, having a grey dress shirt instead of white gives a more modern color pallet, but keeps the classic feel. I am living for the navy with grey color combination. It gives a strong empowering cool-toned appearance. Having a grey, slim tie with a pop of blue lends the look to monochromatic, which makes it interesting without being overwhelming. You could do this with a patterned tie as well but keeping it simple highlights the vintage feel to this style. Going with a slimmer tie also makes those of us who are lacking in the height department appear somewhat taller and slimmer. Adding modern mixed finish cufflinks adds a special touch and the nickel finish goes well with the grey dress shirt. Classic black wingtip oxford shoes round out this classic, conservative look, but can also be changed for light brown oxfords for a more hipster style.
I especially love this look being in the heart of a historic city. Having a classic go-to look works for all occasions and can make you stand out. This is also true for women’s fashion. It is important to have basic dress clothes and pieces that can be mixed and matched. Having a basic black pencil skirt but adding a top that has a beading detail or an interesting cut can give it a more current feel. Jewelry can also help with adding rose gold instead of yellow gold, which can amp up the look in a different way. These little details can make a look that would otherwise be drab stand out from the crowd.
