ALL IN THE DETAILS: Beanie There, Done That

The weather this winter has been unbelievably warm. One day it looks like it might snow, then the next, it’s 70 degrees! When I wake up in the mornings, I have absolutely no idea what to wear. The best bet? mix it up.

This Fashionista combined a warm weather skirt with tights and a toasty coat to keep the look seasonally appropriate. To top off the look she added a beanie. The slate gray hat is perfect for a chillier February day. Beanies are the perfect touch to a winter look, because they not only keep you warm, but they also add an edgy cool-girl vibe to any ensemble. After I chopped all of my hair off, I have been hesitant to wear beanies, but my wardrobe lives vicariously through beanie-clad Fashionista/os around campus.

When wearing a statement headpiece, it’s important to keep the rest of your ensemble simple. This Fashionista does a great job of this. I love that no singular piece of the outfit makes a statement, but that it all flows harmoniously to create this look. Even her jewelry is understated and kept to a chic minimum. Her textured coat and chunky turtleneck contrast perfectly with her loose-fitting denim skirt, all of which are in cool tones, making the ensemble very cohesive. To wear this look and other skirts into the colder months, pairing tights with over-the-knee boots really helps to elongate legs and keeps the focus of the outfit on the upper half of a Fashionista.

How To: Most of us are dying for summer to come already, but until then, pull out your beanies. They’re the perfect balance between style and warmth in these crazy blizzard months. Match the colors like this Fashionista or look for bright popping colors and fun textures. A statement beanie will be sure to make your outfit shine.
