January 29th, 2015 at 2:00am

As the weather in Poughkeepsie gets colder, students are trying to stay warm but also stylish. This Fashionista combined a few fall classics while still showcasing her personal style and looking effortless.

She is wearing a simple gray sweater with unexpected elbow patches, which are a great way to spice up your outfit. The tan elbow patches tie in this Fashionista’s tan leather riding boots and tote bag, both of which are closet staples and can be worn with almost anything.  Elbow patches are a great way to show off your personal style while still looking put together.  There are so many different styles of patches out there including hearts, patterns, on cardigans and on blazers.

Since it can be cold outside but hot, hot, hot in a classroom, layering is the perfect way to stay comfortable all day! Vests are very popular here at Marist, and this Fashionista topped her sweater with a quilted vest in maroon. This adds color and style to a basic outfit while also keeping her core warm. This Fashionista’s chunky infinity scarf is the cherry on top of a great cold weather outfit! Scarves are a great way to add interest and texture to an outfit while adding yet another layer of warmth to your winter ensemble. Her black legging pants are comfortable yet add structure to her outfit.

Overall, this is a great outfit to wear to class! It is casual, comfortable and stylish without being too complicated.

How To: Find a basic sweater with neutral elbow pads or DIY one using an online tutorial. Work with layers in neutrals with one statement color to keep your outfit simple but not boring! Finally, add interest with different textured accessories that show off your personal style.
