STYLE GURU BIO: Audrey Kruse

Greetings Fashionistas/os! I’m Audrey Kruse and I’m starting my sophomore year at the University of Minnesota, studying Journalism. I was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was so lucky to be exposed to great style, artistic impression and diversity at such a young age. This is my first semester writing with CollegeFashionista and words can’t explain my excitement to be a part of the team!

I have loved fashion since I was a toddler, whether it was dressing up in wedding dresses paired with Dr. Martens, or wearing bikini tops with fringe jackets to the grocery store. Since then, my love has only grown. To describe my style, I often use one word: thrifted. I buy nearly all of my clothing and accessories at secondhand stores, I take pride in my bargain shopping skills! In my closet you will find lots of black, white, stripes, denim and clogs (that’s my Scandinavian side showing). My style is feminine but minimalistic, think Kendall Jenner meets Stockholm streetwear.

When I’m not dressing myself or my friends, you can find me binge watching One Tree Hill, eating leftover curry from dinner the night before, blogging or synchronized swimming for my school’s team.

Now let’s talk about what’s important here: clothes. I love this gray on gray look. Both my dress and cardigan were thrifted from the Salvation Army and (sadly) don’t have brand labels on them. What I love about this sleeveless dress is that it can easily go from a summer to winter look just by pairing it with tights and a sweater. I scored the oversized cardigan for $1.49, and its big stitching makes it look like it could be from American Apparel! Thrifting is so nice because saving money on more basic pieces of clothing allow me (and my wallet) to splurge on nice handbags and footwear. I paired my monochromatic look with these black booties from H&M and a vintage Coach cross-body bag. To finish it off, I added a simple gold chain necklace and a bangle from C. Wonder! I love mixing older, vintage items in with new trends.

I can’t wait to spend the semester with all you fellow Fashionistas/os, and I hope to provide you all with a taste of what style we come up with here in the tundra that is Minneapolis!
