STYLE GURU BIO: Kristie Russette

Hello to all of you fashion lovers out there!  My name is Kristie Russette and I am a junior at Montana State University studying Studio Art and English Writing.  This summer is my first semester as a Style Guru, and I am beyond excited to report on the amazing style around my campus in Bozeman!

I’m a lover of all things vintage, Tim Burton anything and Japanese street style.  I’ve been obsessed with fashion since day one.  From playing dress up, to learning how to sew at age nine, to blowing my savings on the freshest looks, you can say fashion has played a big part in my life.

When it comes to my personal style, I get a lot of inspiration from art and film.  I am absolutely in love with the aesthetic styles of Takashi Murakami and of course, Tim Burton.  I believe that all forms of creativity are connected in some way, so I see style as a form of visual art.

My day-to-day looks range from funky and laid back to girly and polished, but I always have to include something with a bit of edge.  Another thing I’m all about is affordable and thrifty finds.  When I’m not scribbling in my sketchbook or perusing bookstores, you can find me searching the racks at a local thrift shop in search of my new favorite piece.

In this look, I pair a chambray button-up with a girly boho dress. My classic red cross-body bag and turquoise ring add a few pops of color. I complete the look with a vintage necklace and earrings, black leggings and a strappy wedge boot.

Here are a few more things about me: 1. My favorite movie of all time is Edward Scissorhands. 2. One of my favorite things to do is make jewelry. 3. I love Ewoks! (Seriously, if an Ewok can’t make you smile, you might not have a soul.) 4. I know the lyrics to far too many Disney songs (Challenge me. I dare you!)

I hope you’re all as excited as I am to kick off this stylish summer! Live long and prosper, my fellow fashion stars!
