STYLE GURU BIO: Kristin Vartan

It is the human condition to experience dissonance between the head and the heart. My dissonance resides between the past, present, and future. My head and heart are tenants of all three. I am a forward thinker with a vintage soul, yet I strive to enjoy the present with those I love. I am a planner, a doer, and have frequent flier miles to the worlds of history and fantasy. One minute I could be watching Gossip Girl, the other brushing up on Arthurian literature. I use twenty-first-century technology like Pinterest to pin upcoming fashion trends that are inspired by the Victorian and Renaissance periods. I am a walking paradox. It’s who I am, and it will not change anytime soon.

As for my fashion sense, it’s a medley of these personality traits, but slightly favoring my love for the past. I may reside in Malibu, but my fashion sense is still reminiscent of the previous year I spent studying abroad in London. I am a believer that black can be eye-catching if you mix and match different textures and patterns. This timeless, Chanel inspired tweed jacket marries well with my Peter Pan collar plaid dress. Because they are both black and white, the pattern play does not become too overwhelming. Plus, it’s a mix of British and French, two of my favorite cultures! For further stamps of Europe, I embellished the jacket with a gold and black cameo brooch. For footwear, I chose Gucci loafer heels with pearl detailing. I love the antique touches these pieces exude without looking dated.

This spring, I am extremely overjoyed to be a Social Media Intern and returning Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! When I’m not hitting the books, exploring LA hotspots, or getting lost in the history or fantasy realms, I will be scouting for unique trends around Pepperdine’s campus! Stay tuned and stay stylish!
